In an age of new and emerging laboratory practices, Dr. David Keren has been at the forefront. With the release of his 14th book, he has advanced clinical laboratory pathology in his field. His new book “Electrophoresis and Mass Spectrometry” is an evidenced-based guide for detecting monoclonal immunoglobulin proteins (M-proteins) and other protein disorders. It provides clear recommendations for laboratory applications of state-of-the-art diagnostic methods.
“After hours of research and collaborations with institutions such as the Mayo Clinic, I am hopeful that this book provides a basis for improving detection and measurement of M-proteins,” said Keren. “Mass spectrometry is the future of monoclonal protein evaluation in laboratory medicine.”
As well as countless hours of research and writing, Keren also spent time creating many of the illustrations depicted throughout the book.
Dr. Keren began his career at U-M in 1978 before becoming the Medical Director of Warde Medical Laboratory, which provided Keren with a broader view of clinical laboratory testing. Keren believes this experience helped him immensely in his career. “This background instilled in me the importance of engaging and listening to ideas and concerns from my staff, clients, and patients.”
Electrophoresis and Mass SpectrometryCombined with his many years of experience teaching in both the clinical laboratory and as a professor of pathology, his book provides a comprehensive source to educate interested groups, as well as allow researchers and educators to advance the future of clinical laboratory medicine.
