Dr. Charles Parkos presents Henry Clay Bryant Professorship Medallion to Dr. Annette Kim.Congratulations on the investiture of Annette Kim, M.D., Ph.D., Professor of Pathology, and Director of the Division of Diagnostic Genetics and Genomics, with the Henry Clay Bryant Professorship in Pathology. This professorship was established to honor the legacy of Dr. Bryant, who received his medical degree and completed his pathology residency at the University of Michigan. Dr. Bryant went on to lead an external pathology laboratory while also serving as a lecturer in pathology at Michigan throughout his career. This professorship was established in 2011 by his estate in partnership with the Department of Pathology.

Dr. Kim was joined by her husband Michael Wood, sons Samuel and Benjamin Wood, sister Dorothy Corbett, and guests, Dr. Robert Wilson, Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and Dr. Joel Moncur, Associate Professor of Pathology at the Uniformed Services University of Health Science.

“In addition to her brilliance and her accomplishments, Annette upholds the highest standards for ethics and professionalism in academic medicine,” praised Dr. Wilson. “Annette does what she does, first and foremost, for the benefit of patients. I can think of no higher compliment than this, and I can think of no one more deserving of this honor than Annette.”

Dr. Robert Wilson and Dr. Joel Moncur praise Dr. Annette Kim's vision.

Dr. Moncur added, “Promotion isn't solely about past achievements; it's about recognizing the potential for future impact.  Dr. Annette Kim's potential extends beyond her impressive track record.  She has unlimited potential to serve patients, to elevate the university, and to advance the practice of medicine.”

"I am tremendously honored to receive the Henry Clay Bryant professorship," responded Kim. "Just as it takes a village to raise a child, an endowed professorship is the time to be grateful to all the beloved mentors and colleagues throughout my career. At the same time, the professorship provides me the means to pay that mentorship forward by supporting the pathologists of the future and my entire division in our collective educational and academic missions, all of which derives from state-of-the-art diagnostic genetic and genomic testing. I am excited to see what we can all accomplish together!"
