Experienced and vigorous, Keller says, “It is truly an honor to work for the world-renowned Michigan Medicine and be a part of their mission and core values.”
Keller has a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Louisiana State University Shreveport and has worked as a laboratory supervisor for Ascension St. John Newland Medical Associates. She earned an ASCP BOC certification as a medical laboratory scientist, then gained experience in hospitals, private laboratories and specialty clinics.
“When the opportunity arose to work for Michigan Medicine Laboratories, I knew that working for such a wonderful, prestigious and advanced hospital system was the right career move,” says Keller, a White Lake resident.
Often drawn to caring for people, Keller’s interest in healthcare blossomed at Fraser High School when she joined the Health Occupation Students of America. Later at Wayne State University, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in medical laboratory sciences and then interned at Ascension St. John School of Medical Technology while working as a laboratory technician at Ascension St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital.
“Everyone has been so helpful and welcoming in my transition,” says Keller. “Dr. Dahl, other managers and supervisors have been mentoring me to become the best leader I can be as the Operations Manager for MLabs. They challenge me and support me in the ideas I bring to the table. It’s opened my eyes to the different aspects of pathology. I see how all divisions work together to provide the best care for patients.”
“What makes me stand out is my positivity and encouragement as well as the ability to provide new ideas from a different perspective. I share my knowledge and show how I can improve our processes and reach our goals for the division. Also, I’m personable and very organized,” says Keller, who is a big fan of color coding anything.
Like other managers, Keller brings her unique life lessons to MLabs. “Trust your instincts and be confident in your knowledge,” says Keller. Don’t be afraid to ask questions because someone else is going to have the same ones. Think about what’s going to help you grow, and that will project onto your team. Try to remain positive and inquisitive.
“I’d like to see the team grow as we fill open positions and improve our procedures and relationships with clients, patients and other divisions in the department,” says Keller.
Interacting with team members is important. Keller says she wants to celebrate their accomplishments and keep encouraging them to do their best – so we can maintain a safe, productive and positive environment.
To frequently renew her surge of energy for working at MLabs, Keller enjoys walking, reading, maintaining her fitness goals and spending time with her husband, family and pets.
