ANN ARBOR – Thankfully, the worst of the pandemic appears to be behind us. But as in-person work and social activities resume and travel restrictions are eased, individuals and groups still need access to COVID-19 testing.

Michigan Medicine Laboratories, the reference laboratory division of Michigan Medicine, continues to serve the community with flexible options for fast, high-quality COVID-19 testing, including a convenient new testing location.

The new testing location, which opens June 3, is located in the KMS Building at 700 KMS Place, southeast of the intersection of State Street and I-94 in Ann Arbor.

This easy-to-access location offers the same “customer-first” testing model developed and refined by Michigan Medicine Laboratories to meet the high demand for rapid turnaround COVID-19 testing experienced at the peak of the pandemic. As of mid-April 2021, Michigan Medicine Laboratories has performed more than 410,000 COVID-19 tests.

Individual Testing

Appointments are required for testing, and are easily scheduled by calling 734-539-5111. Same-day appointments are available.

Tests are performed Monday - Wednesday, Friday: 8:00AM - 6:00PM, Thursday: 8:00AM - 4:00PM and Saturday: 8:00AM - 12:00PM. Drive-through testing is not offered at this location, but parking is free.

Several options are available for collecting a specimen for testing. A trained Michigan Medicine Laboratories staff member can perform a nasopharyngeal swab, or an individual can self-collect on site using a mid-nasal or anterior nasal swab. When arrangements have been made to test a group of people together, saliva samples can be collected.

Staff members at the facility can help individuals choose the best sample collection method for their situation. All RT-PCR COVID tests offered meet international travel requirements. It is recommended that patients of Michigan Medicine undergo a nasopharyngeal swab within 72-96 hours of a scheduled medical procedure.

Testing is free. All insurance providers cover the cost of COVID-19 testing. Insured individual’s insurance providers are billed. Uninsured individuals are tested at no cost.

Results are available within 24-48 hours. Results can be delivered directly to an individual, or to a third party using an easy-to-complete consent form. For Michigan Medicine patients, results can also be delivered to the MyUofMHealth patient portal.

Group Testing

MLabs can also coordinate testing for groups of people. Customized solutions can be developed for employers, schools, camps, travel agencies and others who need multiple tests performed quickly and easily. For groups of 20 or more people, a trained MLabs staff member can perform testing at the client’s location.

Clients wishing to arrange for customized group testing can call 800-862-7284 to establish a free MLabs account.
