Effective June 30, 2026, Michigan Medicine Laboratories Clinical Core Laboratory-Chemistry will update the required collection container/specimen type for ionized calcium testing from serum/serum separator tube (current) to whole blood/lithium heparin tube (NEW). As part of the implementation of the new GEM7000 analyzers in the Clinical Core Laboratory, the approved specimen type for ionized calcium testing is being updated to align with the manufacturer’s validated specimen requirements
