Effective July 20, 2022, the Serotonin Release Assay (Unfractionated Heparin) is sent to Mayo Clinic Laboratories.

 

Collection Instructions: Send blue top (citrate 3.2%) or plasma aliquot for Heparin Antibody Assay (HITAB) screening test. Collect Serotonin Release Assay specimen in a red top tube from a fasting patient (preferred, but not required); do not use SST tube. Allow specimen to sit at room temperature for a minimum of 1 hour in order to clot completely. Centrifuge, aliquot 1 mL serum into a plastic vial and freeze (preferred) or refrigerate.
