Culture
Establish the presence of Candida or other yeast.
No yeast isolated.

A single negative culture does not rule out the possibility of infection.
Test Details
Preliminary results on all cultures are reported in 12-24 hours. Negative cultures reported at 48 hours.

Specimen Requirements
Obtain specimen by scraping throat, mouth tongue or cheek with sterile tongue depressor to remove plaque. Send swab in ESwab transport, available from MLabs. For optimum recovery, send immediately. May be refrigerated up to 24 hrs. Indicate specimen source, collection date/time, current antibiotic therapy, and clinical diagnosis. If an unacceptable specimen is received, the client will be notified and another specimen will be requested before disposal of the specimen.
