Test Usage

Provides quantitative analysis of Cystine in wbc's

Reference Range *

Normal range: <0.2 nmoles 1/2 cys/mg protein

Test Limitations

White Blood Cell cystine levels are sensitive to sample handling and can decrease with time. When whole blood is sent to the laboratory, it is extremely important that the sample arrive in our laboratory within 36 hours of sample draw.

    Collection

    Collect specimen in an ACD yellow top tube. Sent to Specimen Processing in a green bag. Draw Monday - Thursday before 4 pm.
    Sendouts will fill out the Baylor Biochemical req based on information on the MiChart order.

    Special Handling

    Draw Monday - Friday only (prefer Monday - Thursday) before 4 pm. Sample MUST arrive at Baylor within 36 hrs of collection.
    Include a room temp ice pack to prevent temperature changes while shipping
