Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)

Test Usage

Diagnosis or evaluation of patients with motor and sensory neuropathies, monitoring vitamin E status of premature infants requiring oxygenation, evaluation of patients with intestinal malabsorption of lipids.

Reference Range *

Age 0-17 years: 3.8 - 18.4 mg/L
Age >or=18 years: 5.5 - 17.0 mg/L
Significant deficiency: < 3.0 mg/L
Significant excess: > 40 mg/L.

Collection Instructions

Collect specimen in a red top (preferred) or SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into plastic vial and refrigerate or freeze. For long term storage, freeze at -20C.
