Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)

Test Usage

Adjunct in the diagnosis of trichinosis. Results should be used in conjunction with clinical, epidemiologic, and other laboratory tests.

Test Limitations

Antibodies to T. spiralis may not be detectable until 3 weeks after the onset of infection. A second specimen drawn 2-4 weeks after the first specimen is recommended in serologically negative patients with clinical symptoms of trichinosis.
