A total volume measurement is included with quantitative testing of analytes in urine to determine the amount of analyte excreted in urine over a 24 hour period. Collect 24 hour urine specimen. Record total 24 hour urine volume and collection dates/times on request form.

Patient Instruction for 24 Hour Urine Collection: At 7 a.m. on the day before you are to turn in your urine collection, empty your bladder in the toilet. Do not save this urine specimen. But, from this time on, save in the jug all of the urine that you pass for the next 24 hours up to and including a final specimen passed at exactly 7 a.m. the next day. Please mark on the laboratory requisition form for the urine the date and time you started and completed collecting the urine. The urine specimen must be kept refrigerated.
