    Collection

    Collect whole blood in EDTA lavender top tube or ACD tube. Send to Specimen Processing at room temperature.
    Plasma: Must be collected before factor replacement therapy. Centrifuge blue top tubes and aliquot plasma (1 mL each) into an aliquot tube. Centrifuge again, aliquotting into 5 tubes of 1 mL plasma each. Freeze plasma immediately, must be within 4 hours of collection..

    Both whole blood and plasma are required

    ACD tube is acceptable in place of EDTA tube
    Normal Volume
    3 mL whole blood AND 5 mL (1 mL in each of 5 aliquot tubes) of platelet poor double spun plasma
    Minimum Volume
    1 mL whole blood AND 5 mL (1 mL in each of 5 aliquot tubes) of platelet poor double spun plasma
    Storage Temperature
    Whole blood= ambient; Double spun plasma= strict frozen
