Liquid Chromatography - Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) Stable Isotope Dilution Analysis
Confirming the presence of synthetic glucocorticoids. Confirming the cause of secondary adrenal insufficiency.
This method cannot detect all of the available synthetic steroids either available as pharmaceutical compounds or chemicals present in food. Lack of detection does not preclude use of synthetic glucocorticoids because adrenal suppression may persist for some time after the exogenous steroid is discontinued.

- Beclomethasone dipropionate
- Fluticasone propionate
- Megestrol acetate
- Triamcinolone acetonide
- Synthetic Steroid Screen, Serum
Collect specimen in a red top or SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and freeze.
This test screens for and quantitates if present, the following synthetic glucocorticoids: beclomethasone dipropionate, betamethasone, budesonide, dexamethasone, fludrocortisone, flunisolide, fluorometholone, fluticasone propionate, megestrol acetate, methylprednisolone, prednisolone, prednisone, triamcinolone, triamcinolone acetonide. Test sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories.
