Test Usage

To aid in the diagnosis of proteinuria, evaluate renal function.

Reference Range *

< 0.15 g/24 hrs (0-150 mg/24 hrs). Random urine protein/creatinine ratio: < 0.18.

Specimen Requirements
Collection Instructions

Collect 24 hour urine specimen with no preservative. Aliquot 5 mL into a plastic urine container and refrigerate. Record total 24 hour urine volume and collection dates/times on request form. Random urine also acceptable, in which case a protein/creatinine ratio will be reported.

Normal Volume
5 mL aliquot of 24 hour urine collection or 2 mL aliquot of random urine collection.
Minimum Volume
2 mL aliquot of 24 hour urine collection or 1 mL aliquot of random urine collection.
Rejection Criteria
Specimens collected with Acid Preservative are not acceptable. Diapers, sections of diapers, swabs or any other absorbent material will not be accepted as a collection container for urine. Urine collected in acid preservative is unacceptable.
Additional Information

For random urine specimens, a Urine Creatinine will also be performed at no additional charge.
