Colorimetric (Biuret)

Test Usage

Evaluate serum proteins, nutritional status, liver function test, establish the diagnosis of hypoproteinemia and hyperproteinemia.

Reference Range *

1-11 years: 5.8-8.0 g/dL (58-80 g/L), 12-150 years: 6.0-8.3 g/dL (60-83 g/L).

* Reference ranges may change over time. Please refer to the original patient report when evaluating results.

Test Limitations

There is a potential interference in results for patients receiving dextran as a blood volume expander. Results from plasma may be up to 0.4 mg/dL higher than those from serum due to fibrinogen in the sample.

Collect specimen in an SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and refrigerate.
