Radioimmunoassay (RIA)
An aid in monitoring antiresorptive and anabolic therapy in patients with osteoporosis. An adjunct in the assessment of conditions associated with increased bone turnover such as Paget disease. Procollagen I Intact N-terminal (PINP) values should not be used as a screening test for osteoporosis in the general population.
Reference values have not been established for patients who are less than 18 years of age. Adult male: 22 - 87 mcg/L; Adult female premenopausal: 19 - 83 mcg/L; Adult female post menopausal: 16 - 96 mcg/L.

Specimen Requirements
This test should not be requested in patients who have recently received radioisotopes, therapeutically or diagnostically, because of potential assay interference. Collect blood in red top tube (SST is acceptable). Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial, and freeze (preferred) or refrigerate.
