Provider performed microscopy- KOH prep
Performed by authorized providers in the point of care. KOH wet preparation is a useful aid in the diagnosis of fungal infection. Fungal elements can be seen microscopically, especially with the addition of 10% KOH, which will dissolve background material, such as mucous, cellular debris, an keratinized material, while leaving fungal elements intact.

•Use of a contaminated reagent can cause false positive exam.
•Too thick a preparation may obscure elements and can cause a false negative reading.
