Provider performed microscopy- mineral oil immersion or cellophane tape method
Performed by authorized providers in the point of care. Demodex species are considered a normal component of the skin microbiome; however, it is thought that overgrowth of the Demodex mite can lead to Demodex folliculitis. Clinical identification of Demodex mites is helpful in confirming Demodex folliculitis. This is best accomplished with mineral oil preparation or cellophane tape method.

•Use of a contaminated reagent can cause false positive exam.
•The ability to get a positive result is very dependent on location from which scraping is acquired.
