Detection of multiple endocrine adenomas or apudomas. Assessment of "vagal tone" after a meal or sham feeding.

Reference Range *

Age 0-19 yr: not established; age 20-29 yr: <228 pg/ml; age 30-39 yr: <249 pg/ml; age 40-49 yr: <270 pg/ml; age 50-59 yr: <291 pg/ml; age 60-69 yr: <312 pg/ml; age 70-79 yr: <332 pg/ml; age >= 80 yr: not established.

Test Limitations

A non-fasting state will result in a falsely elevated value.

Specimen Requirements

Collection

Collect specimen in lavender top tube from a fasting patient. Following collection place Vacutainer® tube on ice, then centrifuge, aliquot plasma into a plastic vial, and freeze.

Special Handling

Fasting specimen. Place on wet ice immediately.

3 ml plasma

Minimum Volume

0.5 ml plasma
