Test Usage

Testing for IgE antibodies may be useful to establish the diagnosis of an allergic disease and to define the allergens responsible for eliciting signs and symptoms.

Class 0: <0.35 Negative; Class 1: 0.35-0.69 Equivocal; Class 2: 0.70-3.49 Positive; Class 3: 3.50-17.4 Positive; Class 4: 17.5-49.9 Strongly positive; Class 5: 50.0-99.9 Strongly positive; Class 6: > or =100 Strongly positive

    Collect specimen in SST or red top tube. Spin and aliquot serum into a screw capped plastic tube. Send to Specimen Processing refrigerated

    Normal Volume
    0.5 mL for each 5 allergens requested
    Minimum Volume
    For one allergen: 0.3 mL; For more than one allergen: (0.05 mL x number of allergens) + 0.25 mL dead space
