Test Overview
Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectometry (LC-MS/MS)
Monitor therapy for patients with methylmalonic aciduria. The rate of urinary methylmalonic acid excretion is usually elevated in patients with occult cobalamin deficiency. Methylmalonate accumulates in man when a cobalamin deficiency state exists which is identified by low normal levels of vitamin B12. Quantitation of urine methylmalonate provides for a functional test for adequacy of this vitamin.
< 3.60 mmol/mol creatinine
* Reference ranges may change over time. Please refer to the original patient report when evaluating results.
