Reference Range *
> or =18 years: <4.0 mcg/g creatinine. Reference values have not been established for patients that are <17 years of age.

Test Limitations
Contamination of urine is possible because the usual daily excretion rate is low and manganese-containing dust is common.

Specimen Requirements
Collection Instructions
Collect urine in a clean, plastic container with no metal cap or glued insert and no preservative. Collection must take place prior to or 48 hours after administering gadolinium-containing contrast media.
Contraindications
High concentrations of gadolinium and iodine are known to interfere with most metals tests. If either gadolinium- or iodine-containing contrast media has been administered, a specimen should not be collected for 96 hours.
