Test Overview
Test Methodology

Multiplex array format with Meso Scale Discovery (MSD®) Sector Imager 2400.

Test Usage

Cytokines have emerged as molecules of importance in the regulation of many immunologic processes in the cell. The ability to accurately measure quantitative and qualitative differences in cytokine production is becoming increasingly important to the understanding of normal and pathological processes.

Reference Range *

<1.8 pg/mL

* Reference ranges may change over time. Please refer to the original patient report when evaluating results.

Test Limitations

The result is reported in pg/mL. The assay range is approximately 7.0 to 7300. The reference range for a healthy population is less than 17.4. However it should be noted that these ranges are obtained from a limited population of apparently healthy adults and are not diagnostic thresholds.

Additional Information

IL-6, a multi-functional cytokine produced by a range of cells, plays a central role in host defense mechanisms, is involved in induction of B-cell differentiation, induction of IL-2 and IL-2 receptor expression and proliferation and differentiation of T cells. Test sent to Viracor Eurofins.
