Test Overview
Test Methodology

IGFBP-3: Enzyme-Labeled Chemiluminescent Immunometric Assay, IGF-1: Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS).

Test Usage

In combination with IGF-1 measurements, IGFBP-3 measurements are useful for the diagnosis of growth disorders, the diagnosis of adult GH-deficiency, monitoring of rhGH treatment, and as a possible adjunct to IGF-1 and GH in the diagnosis and follow-up of acromegaly and gigantism. At this time, IGFBP-3 cannot be reliably used as a prognostic marker in breast, colon, prostate or lung cancer.

Reference Range *

Age specific ranges provided with report.

* Reference ranges may change over time. Please refer to the original patient report when evaluating results.

Test Limitations

IGF-1 assays exhibit significant variability among platforms and manufacturers. Direct comparison of results obtained by different assays is problematic. Re-baselining of patients is recommended if assays are changed.
