Test Usage

Monitor therapeutic drug levels; monitor patient compliance; evaluate imipramine toxicity.

Reference Range *

Imipramine and Desipramine: Therapeutic: 175 - 300 ng/mL. Desipramine only: Therapeutic: 100 - 300 ng/mL. Therapeutic ranges are for specimens collected at trough (ie, immediately before next scheduled dose). Levels may be elevated in non-trough specimens.

Collection Instructions

Collect blood in a red top tube immediately before next scheduled dose (minimum 12 hours after last dose); do not use SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into plastic vial within 2 hours of colleciton, and refrigerate.

Rejection Criteria
SST or PST tube not acceptable.
