Test Overview
Chemiluminescent Immunoassay (CLIA)
CSF levels of HCG are a useful aid in the diagnosis of primary central nervous system (CNS) germ cell tumors (GCTs), as well as an adjunct in the diagnosis of CNS metastases of germ cell tumors (both testicular and choriocarcinoma), and for monitoring recurrence after treatment of these tumors. Elevated levels of HCG in CSF indicate likely presence of one of these types of tumors. Quantitation of HCG in CSF can be important in guiding treatment or monitoring response to treatment.
