Test Usage

The test is designed to detect and characterize Acyclovir drug resistance associated with specific mutations found in the Thymidine Kinase (UL23) gene of both HSV Type 1 and HSV Type 2. These mutations can lead to reduced or absent response to Acyclovir, a commonly used antiviral treatment.

    Collection Instructions

    Collect blood in an EDTA, red, SST or PPT tube. Spin and freeze plasma/serum within 24 hours of collection. CSF- if cellular material is present, spin, aliquot and freeze.

    Normal Volume

    1.5 mL of plasma/serum/CSF or BAL; swabs in 1.5 mL VTM

    Minimum Volume

    1 mL plasma/serum/CSF or BAL; swab in 1 mL VTM
