Detection of hepatitis D virus (HDV)-specific total antibodies (combined IgG and IgM) in human serum and diagnosis of concurrent HDV infection in patients with acute hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection (acute coinfection), chronic HBV infection (chronic coinfection), or acute exacerbation of known chronic HBV infection (HDV superinfection).

Collection

Collect specimen in an SST (preferred) or red top tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial within 24 hours of collection and freeze (preferred) or refrigerate up to 30 days.

Additional Information

If the Hepatitis D Virus total antibodies result is postitive or equivocal, Hepatitis D RNA detection and quantification (HDVQU) will be performed at an addtional chargge. By ordering this test the clinician acknowledges that additional reflex testing will be performed and billed at a separate additional charge if indicated. Test sent to Mayo Clinic Laboratories.
