Test Usage

Diagnosis and monitoring of hepatitis B virus infectivity. Recognition of resolution of hepatitis B infection with seroconversion of HBeAg to hepatitis Be antibody (anti-Hbe).

Absence or disappearance of HBeAg or anti-HBe does not rule out chronic hepatitis B carrier state and/or infectivity.

    Contraindications
    Test not indicated if patient serum known to be negative for Hepatitis B Surface Antigen.

    Additional Information

    Presence of HBeAg usually indicates active viral replication and infectivity.
