Test Overview
Chemiluminescence Immunoassay
Diagnosis and monitoring of hepatitis B virus infectivity. Recognition of resolution of hepatitis B infection with seroconversion of HBeAg to hepatitis Be antibody (anti-Hbe).
Non-Reactive
* Reference ranges may change over time. Please refer to the original patient report when evaluating results.
Absence or disappearance of HBeAg or anti-HBe does not rule out chronic hepatitis B carrier state and/or infectivity.
Test Details
4 hours
Specimen Requirements
Collect specimen in SST or red top tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and refrigerate.
Specimen storage: Centrifuge within 24 hours of draw. Store refrigerated at 2-8C for 7 days. For long term storage freeze at -20C for 1 year, with up to 3 freeze/thaw cycles.
Red top tube
Green top tube (lithium or sodium heparin), Lavendar top tube (EDTA plasma).
1.0 mL serum
0.5 mL serum
Additional Information
Presence of HBeAg usually indicates active viral replication and infectivity.
