Chemiluminescent Immunoassay

Test Usage

Presence of hepatitis core IgM antibody indicates acute or very recent hepatitis B infection. The performance of this assay has not been established with cord blood, neonatal specimens, cadaver specimens, heat-inactivated samples or body fluids other than serum.

Test Limitations

Specimens must be centrifuged and separated from cellular material with 24 hours of collections, Specimen may be stored at room temperature up to 8 hours; specimen should be refrigerated at 2-8C between 8-48 hours of collection; specimen should be frozen if assay will not be completed within 48 hours of collection.

Collection Instructions

Collect specimen in an SST or red top tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and refrigerate up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.

Additional Information

The Hepatitis B Core Antibody, IgM assay will be performed automatically on specimens positive for the Hepatitis B Core Antibody, IgG and IgM assay.
