Presence of hepatitis core antibody indicates previous hepatitis B infection. The performance of this assay has not been established with cord blood, neonatal specimens, cadaver specimens, heat-inactivated samples or body fluids other than serum.

Specimen Requirements
Collect specimen in an SST or red top tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and refrigerate at 2-8C up to 7 days or freeze at -20C for up to 12 months with only 5 freeze/thaw cycles, longer storage.
Red Top Tube; Green Top Tube (heparinized plasma); Lavender Top Tube (EDTA plasma)

Additional Information
The Hepatitis B Core Antibody, IgM assay will be performed on all positive specimens at an additional charge. By ordering this test the clinician acknowledges that additional reflex testing will be performed and billed at a separate additional charge if indicated.
