STAT requests for this test will be performed on a STAT basis (supervisory staff approval is not required).
Specimen Requirements
Collection Instructions
Collect specimen in a lavender top EDTA K2 Vacutainer® tube as soon after delivery or incident as possible. Refrigerate and send intact within 24 hours of collection. Due to transit time this test is not recommended for clients sending via FedEx or UPS. If the specimen must be sent via overnight courier, please notify MLabs Client Services prior to sending and provide the patient's name and tracking number.
Alternate Specimen
Any EDTA K2 collection tube is acceptable, including, but not limited to Pink top EDTA K2 and Tan top EDTA K2 tubes.
Normal Volume
3 mL EDTA K2 whole blood
Minimum Volume
1 mL EDTA K2 whole blood
Rejection Criteria
Specimens clotted, diluted with IV fluid, or in improper tubes will be rejected. Liquid EDTA K3 collection tubes are not acceptable due to possible dilutional effects.
