Titer values of 1:250-1:2000 (modest elevations) are found in 5% of patients with motor neuron disease. Patients with ALS may have modest elevations. High titers have been found only in patients with multifocal motor neuron neuropathy.

Collect specimen in a red top or SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and refrigerate.
Screening tests are performed for IgG and IgM antibodies to GM1 and GD1b. If positive, the appropriate titer will be performed at an additional charge.
