Test Limitations

Titer values of 1:250-1:2000 (modest elevations) are found in 5% of patients with motor neuron disease. Patients with ALS may have modest elevations. High titers have been found only in patients with multifocal motor neuron neuropathy.

Collection Instructions

Collect specimen in a red top or SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and refrigerate.

Additional Information

Screening tests are performed for IgG and IgM antibodies to GM1 and GD1b. If positive, the appropriate titer will be performed at an additional charge. By ordering this test the clinician acknowledges that additional reflex testing will be performed and billed at a separate additional charge if indicated. Test sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories.
