Test Usage

Monitoring patients on ganciclovir. Serum concentrations of ganciclovir do not correlate well to toxicity or efficacy. Reference ranges provided are representative of typical serum concentrations seen during therapy, but individual values must be interpreted in conjunction with the clinical status of the individual patient and the specific characteristics of the infecting microorganism.

Collection

Collect specimen in an EDTA or pink top tube; do not use PST tube. Spin and aliquot into a screw capped plastic tube and refrigerate. For maximum clinical significance, usual sampling times are Peak: approximately 30 to 60 minutes after dosing or Trough: immediately before next dose is given.
