Test Overview
Test Methodology

Liquid Chromatography - Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)

Test Usage

Fentanyl is potent synthetic opioid analgesic that is used for chronic pain and as an anaesthetic. It has about 100 times the potency of morphine and 50 times that of heroin. Measurement of Fentanyl, and its metabolite Norfentanyl, in urine by UPLC-MS/MS can give clinicians valuable information with regard to monitoring Fentanyl use in pain management. Also, urine levels are important in cases of Fentanyl abuse or overdose.

Reference Range *

Negative. Fentanyl: <1.0 ng/mL; Norfentanyl: <10.0 ng/mL

* Reference ranges may change over time. Please refer to the original patient report when evaluating results.
