High Performance Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)

Test Usage

The test is used in the determination of circulating level of estrone with no or minimal cross reactivity with other estrogens.

Reference Range *

CHILDREN: Age specific reference ranges provided with report. Estrone levels in newborns (aged 1-14 days) are very elevated at birth but will fall to prepubertal levels within a few days. ADULT MALES: 10 - 60 pg/mL. ADULT FEMALES: Premenopausal: 17 - 200 pg/mL; Postmenopausal: 7 - 40 pg/mL.

Specimen Requirements
Collection

Collect specimen in a red top tube; do not use SST tube. Send to Specimen Processing in a green bag. Centrifuge and aliquot serum into a plastic vial within 2 hours of collection. Refrigerate.

Special Handling

Must be spun and serum removed from the cells within 2 hours
