Therapeutic drug monitoring.

Reference Range *

Encainide: 15 - 100 ng/mL; O-desmethylencainide (ODE): 100 - 300 ng/mL; 3-methoxy-ode (MODE): 60 - 300 ng/mL. Ten percent of patients do not form therapeutic levels of the active metabolites MODE and ODE. In these patients, the recommended range for encainide is 300 - 1,200 ng/mL.

Collect blood in a red or green top tube; do not use SST/PST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum or plasma into plastic vial and refrigerate.
