Specimen Requirements
An EM fixation kit containing glutaraldehyde fixative may be obtained by contacting MLabs. Place the specimen into the 3% formaldehyde/3% glutaraldehyde fixative. Fix at 4 degrees C until shipment at ambient (room) temperature. Do not freeze the specimen. For Buffy Coat specimens, collect specimen in green top tube. Refrigerate and send at least 4mL intact heparinized whole blood.
Additional Information
Test includes pathologist interpretation of results billed as a separate additional charge or billed to the client as a global fee. A specimen should also be submitted for routine light microscopic evaluation at the time the specimen is obtained for EM study. EM is not a substitute for routine light microscopy and the ultrastructural features must be interpreted within the context of the light microscopy findings.
