Hemolysis

Test Usage

To rule out the diagnosis of paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria (PCH) in cases of hemoglobinuria, cold exacerbated hemolysis, unusual presentation of apparent warm or cold autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA). A positive test is considered diagnostic for PCH.

Testing time is 5 hours for initial result. Blood Bank Pathologist performs a clinical review found in the Immunohematology Consult Report.

Collection

Collect samples and immediately store in 37 C warm sand for transport to Blood Bank.
Warm sand thermos is available in Chemistry.

Rejection Criteria
Samples displaying hemolysis, collected in serum separator tubes, contaminated, of inadequate volume or not properly identified will be rejected.
