Confirmation of the clinical diagnosis of diphtheria.
Culture negative for Corynebacterium diphtheriae.

Negative culture does not rule out infection.

Specimen Requirements
Obtain throat or nasopharynx specimen prior to antibiotic therapy if possible. Indicate specimen source and collection date/time. Send at room temperature in Stuarts media or any other bacterial transport media.
ACDIP is an old test code, Sendouts- please use either ARUPM to send it across the interface, or fill out a manual req using ACDIP. We cannot build Micro tests on the ARUP interface as a single test code.

Additional Information
Test sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories. For optimal results obtain specimen as early in the course of the disease as possible and before the initiation of antibiotics.
