Specimen Requirements
Collection Instructions

Collect 24 hour urine specimen with no preservative. Aliquot at least 15 mL into a plastic urine container and refrigerate. Record total 24 hour urine volume and collection dates/times on request form. Random urine is also acceptable.

Alternate Specimen
Specimens collected with glacial acetic acid, HCl, Boric Acid, or Toluene preservative are acceptable. If collected in container with acid preservative, indicate on container and requisition: "Collected in Acid".
Normal Volume
15 mL aliquot of 24 hour or random urine
Minimum Volume
7 mL aliquot of 24 hour or random urine. Cannot perform test with less than 7 mL urine.
Additional Information

"Positive" cystine urine samples are stored 6 months frozen for possible quantitative cystine analysis. Call Sendouts at 647-5454 to request quantitative cystine test.
