Specimen Requirements
Collection Instructions
Collect the amniotic fluid in an Amniotic Fluid container, discarding the first 2 mL of fluid. If the fluid is being used if being used in conjunction with other tests, a total of 25-30 mL will be needed. Send to Specimen Processing refrigerated
Contraindications
Optimal timing for specimen collection is during 14 to 18 weeks of gestation, but specimens collected at other weeks of gestation are also accepted.
Normal Volume
10 mL of amniotic fluid (Discard first 2 mls of fluid) if being used in conjunction with other tests, a total of 25-30 mL will be needed.
Minimum Volume
5 mL amniotic fluid
