Test Usage

Evaluate presence of hyperlipidemia, metabolic disorders, risk for coronary disease.

Reference Range *

< or = 200 mg/dL. The National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) has set the following guidelines for serum Cholesterol (ATP III Classification): ADULTS: Desirable <200 mg/dL; Borderline High 200 - 239 mg/dL; High >240 mg/dL. CHILDREN (ages 0-18 yrs): Desirable <170 mg/dL; Borderline High 170 - 199 mg/dL; High >200 mg/dL.

    Collect specimen in an SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and refrigerate.
