Solid Phase Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
Diagnosis of idiopathic (autoimmune) thrombocytopenia purpura, immune thrombocytopenia associated with SLE or other disorders associated with autoimmune phenomena.
Negative. If positive, glycoprotein specificity will be identified.

Presence of reactivity to some glycoproteins has no clearly established clinical significance. Patients who are septic may also have a positive test with reactivity against most glycoproteins.

Specimen Requirements
Collect blood in a sufficient number of lavender top (EDTA) tubes. Send intact whole blood ambient within 24 hours of collection. The patient must have a platelet count above 10,000 mm3. Specimens are accepted Monday through Thursday only and not the day before a holiday (specimen must be received by MLabs by 6:00 pm). Please include the following information: 1) patient diagnosis 2) has patient had IVIG in the last 30 days? 3) has patient had a platelet transfusion in the last 72 hours? 4) a copy of the patient's platelet count results.
Specimen must be kept ambient.
10 mL EDTA whole blood (Adult)
Additional Information
Transfused platelets will interfere with the assay. Delay specimen collection until after 72 hours post platelet transfusion. Test sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories.
