Evaluation of patients with a clinical suspicion of a wide range of conditions including organic acidemias, fatty acid oxidation disorders, and primary carnitine deficiency.

Specimen Requirements
Collection

Collect specimen in a green top tube (preferred); lavender top tube is also acceptable. Centrifuge, aliquot plasma into a plastic vial and freeze.

Alternate Specimen

Lithium heparin green top and Lav top EDTA are acceptable,

0.5 mL plasma

Minimum Volume

0.3 mL plasma

Additional Information

Test includes Total Carnitine, Free Carnitine, Acylcarnitine, and AC/FC Ratio. Test sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories.
