Test Usage

To follow patients with neoplasm and to evaluate the effect of the antineoplastic therapy, particularly in pancreatic and colorectal carcinoma.

Test Limitations

CEA levels are elevated in smokers, former smokers, patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, and patients with Non colorectal or pancreatic neoplasms.

    Collect pancreatic cyst fluid in SST or red top tube, or sterile container with no preservative. Refrigerate. Pancreatic cyst fluid must be of liquid consistency for analysis.

    Contraindications
    This test should not be used as a screening test for carcinoma.

    0.5 mL of pancreatic cyst fluid
