Test Usage

Diagnosis and follow up of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC); adjunct to diagnosis of multiple endocrine neoplasia type II (MENII) and familial medullary thyroid carcinoma (FMTC); occasionally useful in the diagnosis and follow up of islet cell tumors.

Reference Range *

Males: <18 pg/mL; Females: <12 pg/mL.

Specimen Requirements
Collection Instructions

Collect specimen in an SST or red top tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial, and freeze within 1 hour of collection. Refrigerated samples are not acceptable.

Special Handling

Must arrive in lab or aliquot and freeze within 1 hour. STRICT FROZEN

Rejection Criteria
Plasma, lipemia, icteric or hemolyzed specimens.
