- C3NeF
- Complement C3 Nephritic Factor
Specimen Requirements
Collect specimen in a red top tube; do not use SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial and freeze within 2 hours of collection.
Additional Information
C3 NeF is an autoantibody that binds to the alternative pathway C3 convertase and prolongs its activity in vivo. Its presence can be detected by mixing the patient's serum with normal serum and looking for conversion of the C3 in the normal serum by 2-dimensional immunoelectrophoresis under conditions that only allow alternative pathway activation. This assay measures C3 NeF function and is semi-quantitative. Test sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories; performed by National Jewish Health.
