Interpretation: (reported with every value)
The American Heart Association recommends the following guidelines for relating hsCRP levels to risk for cardiovascular disease.
Low Risk hsCRP: <1.0 mg/L
Average Risk hsCRP: 1.0 – 3.0 mg/L
Increased Risk hsCRP: >3.0 mg/L
Values greater than 9.5 mg/L should be repeated after ruling out a source of acute inflammation

Specimen Requirements
Collect specimen in an SST tube. Centrifuge, aliquot serum into a plastic vial within 1 hour of collection and refrigerate up to 8 days.
Red top tube, Green top tube (sodium or lithium heparin), Lavender top tube (EDTA). Okay to send a spun SST tube (instead of serum aliquot) as long as there is good separation of serum from the cells (2/02).
