Specimen Requirements
Serum should be separated from cells within 2 hours of collection and frozen, if unable to analyze immediately.
Collect specimen in a red top from a fasting patient. Centrifuge and aliquot into a plastic tube and freeze. Fasting morning collection (before 10am) is recommended as diurnal variations can cause elevated levels at night. Dietary supplements containing biotin may interfere with this assay. For patients on daily supplements containing biotin (vitamin B7), or multivitamins, specimen should not be drawn until at least 8 hours after last administration.
